Supporting town centre living

One of the clearest changes has been an increase in town centre living.

New homes at Carnival Place, Peach Place and Elms Field have brought more residents closer to shops, services, leisure and public transport, with 217 new homes across the town centre.

This helps support local businesses throughout the day and into the evening, contributing to a more active and resilient town centre.

Living in and above the town centre also reduces the need for short car journeys and makes it easier to reach everyday destinations without relying on a car.

With a town centre library, leisure centre, bowling, laser quest, Aldi, Everyman Cinema, restaurants, cafés and shops all within easy reach, more of daily life can take place close to home. This supports Wokingham as a place people can live, work and visit.

Alongside later phases at Elms Field and Carnival Place, earlier development at Peach Place also combined homes with shops and public space, helping to establish town centre living as part of the regeneration from its earliest stages.
