Peach Place
A new heart for the town centre
Award-winning Peach Place is one of the most-visited parts of Wokingham town centre - a vibrant, pedestrianised square surrounded by independent shops, restaurants and new homes, right in the heart of the town.
Peach Street’s tired and dated 1960s retail arcade and façade is now home to a new public square at Peach Place with shops, cafés, bars, restaurants and homes.
Since opening in April 2019, Peach Place has become a genuine gathering point for the town - somewhere residents come not just to shop, but to meet, eat and spend time. That sense of community was part of the vision from the start, and the square's pedestrianised design, with space to sit, socialise and spill out from the surrounding businesses, is what makes it work.
Today, Peach Place is home to a mix of independent and national businesses. The plaza comes alive throughout the year with popular events, including Oktoberfest, live music performances, food stalls and pop-up dining - bringing people into the town centre and giving residents a reason to stay.
The metropolitan, pedestrianised square offers people a great space for socialising and attending events, plus opportunities to wine and dine.
Peach Place before regeneration
Peach Place after regeneration
The regeneration of Peach Place was recognised with two major national and international awards in 2020 and 2021.
“I always felt that (the regeneration) would be worth it in the end because, ultimately, we would have a revived town, something we could be proud of.”

Bush Walk: part of Wokingham's story for centuries
Bush Walk has been at the heart of Wokingham for centuries. The site was home to a tavern as far back as the 16th century, later becoming the Bush Hotel - a landmark in the town until its closure in 1986, when it was transformed into the shopping lane that exists today.
When the council purchased Bush Walk in 2014 as part of the wider regeneration programme, the aim was clear: to protect and grow the independent retail offer that sets Wokingham apart and makes it a place people want to spend time and to preserve and enhance a treasured heritage asset which is part of the town’s history.
Today, Bush Walk is home to a range of independent and boutique retailers, which gives the town its distinct character.
Bush Walk sits right next to Peach Place - together they are at the heart of a regenerated town centre that has something for everyone.
