Wokingham Library
The former Wokingham Library was in Denmark Street in a two-storey building built by Berkshire County Council in 1996.
One of the objectives of the second phase of the Carnival Hub development is to support the arts and cultural activities in Wokingham, which complements the function and activities of the library service.
The decision to move the library to our new Carnival Hub development included greater flexibility for the provision of library services, as well as a range of other community services and improved access to other leisure and cultural activities.
In September 2022, Wokingham Library was relocated inside Carnival Hub.
The previous library site in Denmark Street is currently undergoing works to transform into a Post-16 SEND Hub, expected to open in September 2026.

Range of library services
The library’s home at the Carnival Hub matches our ambitions to make our sites spaces for all, which meets the community’s needs.
As well as thousands of books and reading schemes, you’ll find:
- Extended opening hours through self-service partnership with Places Leisure
- Exhibition space
- Small and large meeting room options for community events
- A space for studying and dozens of computers which are free to use
- NHS app help and support
The new site as part of the Wokingham regeneration has helped to boost use of libraries, with 200,000 visits annually, thanks to this broader offer and a new space residents can enjoy that meets their needs.
The library remains but offers a range of services from us and our partners. Similar plans are being progressed at Woodley and Arborfield too.
