Report a road safety concern

Tell us about a concern with crossings, junctions, traffic speed and parking restrictions

In 2025 our Traffic Management team received nearly 750 new requests via the report a road safety concern form.  Concern that can be reported include:

  • Difficulty crossing the road
  • Concerns about traffic speeds
  • Suggestions about improving a junction
  • Requests for parking restrictions due to inconsiderate parking affecting sight lines. Visit our parking restriction page to report this to our team

The safety of our residents is our number one priority and decisions will be based on safety alone, however limited resources and budget, due to the council’s financial situation, will have an impact on the timescales as we must prioritise the works based on safety.

How to report other concerns with our roads and footways

Our Highways Department also receive requests for maintenance work, including pothole repairs, street lighting faults and faded road markings such as yellow or white lines. These reports are dealt with differently via our mapping system. Further information about gritting and grit bins can be found on our gritting and snow clearance page.

How we assess requests

In many cases we are unable to take further action as we receive a high number of requests, and must balance these against criteria such as traffic volumes, reported incidents and available funds.

An evidence-based approach is used to determine if a location needs possible engineering solutions. We work in partnership with Thames Valley Police with possible concerns, changes and initiatives within road safety across the Borough. We regularly assess sites for safety and hot spot areas and will prioritise these areas for intervention.

We use third party software to assess speeds and injury accident data which is a national approach, for local authorities and police forces. This is due to damage only road collisions not nationally being reported to Department for Transport and are not always reported to the police. This data offers insights into possible hot spot areas to consider for intervention and supports most of our assessments of requests.

Decisions based on policy

If you wish to submit a complaint about the decision made by the Traffic Management team, we will investigate that your case was thoroughly investigated and assessed in line with Council Policy and legislation.
