Time capsule
There are two time capsules buried together in the public area outside of the Carnival Hub’s entrance. The location is marked with an engraved stone slab.
The time capsules preserve local and national history, offering a snapshot of life from 1992 and 2022.
Local resident Sue English won a newspaper competition to provide content for the original 1992 time capsule, which included stamps, newspapers, coins and photos and a recording of her family talking about their lives at that time.
We recovered the original time capsule and invited Sue to take part in the burying of the new time capsule in 2022. The new time capsule contains a range of items including:
- Coin and stamp sets from 2022
- Seeds to grow when the capsule is opened
- Copies of local and national newspapers
- A food bill
- A range of photos and information from the original leisure centre, the current build and from Wokingham Library
- A letter from the Mayor
- A letter from Sue English
Both time capsules are set to be opened in 2092, 100 years from when the original Carnival Pool building was built and 70 years from when the new Carnival Hub opened.
