Step 7: Long-term arrangements (permanence)

The goal is to provide the child with a stable, secure and loving home where they can thrive. This stage is often called permanence planning.

As plans for the child's future are developed, we'll consider what arrangement is best able to meet their needs, both now and in the long term.

Possible outcomes

• Returning home to their parents, if it is safe and in their best interests.
• Remaining in your care on a long-term basis.
• A legal arrangement such as a:
  • Child Arrangements Order
  • Special Guardianship Order
  • Adoption Order
• Long-term fostering.

What to expect

• You may be involved in discussions and meetings about the child's future.
• Professionals will consider information from everyone involved in the child's life.
• The child's wishes and feelings will be taken into account where appropriate.
• We'll explain the options available and what they could mean for you and the child.

Moving forward

Every child's situation is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Decisions will be based on what is in the child's best interests and what will provide them with the greatest stability, security and sense of belonging.
