Step 5: Planning for the future
As more information is gathered, decisions will be made about what is best for the child, both now and in the future. The aim is to make sure the child is safe, well supported and able to experience stability and a sense of belonging.
What decisions are based on
We'll consider:
-
The child's safety and wellbeing.
- What arrangements will provide stability and meet the child's long-term needs.
- The child's wishes, feelings and important relationships.
- The support available to the child and those caring for them.
What to expect
- You may be invited to meetings to discuss the child's needs and the next steps.
- You'll have opportunities to share your views and discuss any support you may need.
- We'll keep you informed about plans and explain any decisions that are made.
Looking ahead
If the child is looked after by the local authority, planning for a stable long-term home, sometimes called permanence planning, will begin as early as possible. This helps ensure the child has a clear plan for their future and the support they need to thrive.
We understand that decisions about a child's future can feel emotional and sometimes uncertain. We'll work with you throughout the process, listen to your views, and make sure you understand what is happening and what the next steps are.
