Education other than at school (EOTAS)

For some children and young people with an EHCP, going to an early years setting, school or college will not meet their needs.

This can be for different reasons, for example, mental health or emotional reasons.

If we agree that a nursery, school or college is not suitable, we will work with you to arrange for your child or young person to be educated in another way. This is known as education otherwise than at school (EOTAS) and is different from elective home education.

EOTAS is agreed through:

  • an EHC needs assessment
  • a reassessment of needs
  • an EHCP annual review

EOTAS means your child or young person will not be on the school roll.

If you are considering requesting EOTAS, speak to your child's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)  and our SEND Service.
