Emergency plan: what to include

If something happens and you can’t care for someone, it helps to have a plan ready. Here are the important things to write down:

  • Name and address of the person you care for
  • Who to call in an emergency (family, friends, or support worker)
  • Medicines they take and where they are kept
  • Any regular treatments they need
  • Any allergies they have
  • Doctor and pharmacy phone numbers
  • Care plan (if they have one)
  • Continence products (like pads): who supplies them, what size, and how often
  • Mobility help: like a wheelchair or hoist, and where it's kept
  • Behaviour: others should know about (e.g. if they get upset easily or need calm spaces)
