Nursery classes and foundation units

Some primary schools offer nursery classes or foundation units as part of their early years provision. These work in a similar way to pre schools, usually offering sessional care, typically 3-hour sessions such as 9am to 12pm. and follow school terms dates, meaning they're closed during the school holidays. Many also provide breakfast and lunch clubs, which means your child may be able to stay for a full school day if places are available.

You can find a list of all the nursery classes in the borough in our families directory.

Transferring to school

It's important to remember that there is no automatic transfer from a school's nursery class to the school itself - you still need to apply to the school when your child is old enough.
