Household waste

Our household waste collection service is for any rubbish that cannot be recycled.

Most properties have a fortnightly collection using a 180-litre black wheelie bin. Some properties receive a weekly blue bag collection instead, where there is no space for a wheeled bin. Others use communal bins, depending on the type of property.

Use our collection day finder to check which service your property has and when your next collection will take place:

Fortnightly Black Bin Collections

Your 180-litre black bin holds around two full bin bags of rubbish.

Please note:

  • We cannot collect rubbish placed next to or on top of the bin unless in an authorised WBC bag.
  • The lid must be fully closed.
  • The bin belongs to the council and must stay at the property if you move.
  • Please ensure your house number/name is clearly displayed on your bin so it can be returned to you, if misplaced.
  • You may decorate your bin with paint, stickers or bin wraps if you wish.

Households on a weekly or fortnightly bag collection

You will receive an annual allocation of 54 blue bags in February or March of each year.

Further information can be found under: Blue Bag Collection

Households with an annexe

Properties with an occupied annex that is registered with council tax will have a separate bin which will require a sticker to identify it as a separate property.

Please note that annexes that are let either as a holiday home, self-catering accommodation, or Airbnb, are prohibited from using the council's waste collections. They will need a commercial waste collection, and these will be monitored.

Communal Bins

Bins are allocated to each bin store according to the number of properties sharing them. Waste left outside of the bins will not be collected and it may restrict access and prevent the crews from emptying the bins so please be considerate.

Get help putting out waste (Assisted collections)

We offer assisted collections for residents in houses who cannot put their bins out for collection because of illness, disability, or frailty and who do not have anyone else in the household who can help.

If you live in a flat with communal bins, please contact your managing agent who will be able to assist you.

For residents who qualify, our waste crews will collect, empty, and return their waste containers to and from an agreed location.
