Current project status

The construction process has been carefully divided into three distinct phases. Each phase will be carried out one at a time, allowing us to manage the project in a systematic manner and minimise disruptions to the community.

We are currently in phase one of the project which is currently due to be completed in May 2024.

Phase one was originally scheduled to be completed by 8 May however, over the past few weeks, the project team have uncovered a lot of electrical, gas and water pipes that were not visible on any plans provided by the utility companies.

This has meant the team have had to hand dig rather than use machines in many areas to ensure the safety of our team and to prevent damage to these vital services.

This, together with heavy rainfall, has caused delays. The project team are confident that this time can be made up in phase two and three of the project which would allow us to complete the project on schedule.

Actions to bring the project back on schedule are being considered which includes working additional hours.  At this stage it is not pragmatic to increase working hours, but this will remain under review throughout the project.

There is significantly more excavation works being carried out during this current phase so it is hoped that with less digging being carried out in the later phases, there will be less unforeseen issues that the team will need to contend with.

Changes to car parking

We’ve now reached a point, within our phase one drainage works, where access to the car park outside Londis Red Oak Store and Bob's Fish and Chip Shop from Finchampstead Road can be reinstated.

We have ensured the car park remains accessible throughout the project. From 16 April, access to the car park will be switched back to Finchampstead Road and will no longer be accessible from Nine Mile Ride as we begin to lay the new kerb line and footway paving on this approach to the crossroad.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout and signage in relation to this car park will be switched to accommodate the new access arrangements.

Local business owners have been made aware and we ask you to continue to support your local businesses throughout this project.
