Working towards greener and healthier travel options

In the long term, we hope these improvements will become part of a longer active travel route along Reading Road between Sadlers Lane, in Winnersh parish, to Broad Street in Wokingham town centre.

We’ve consulted on all stages of this proposed route and made changes accordingly. However, we don’t to move any other stages forward yet as this depends on external funding being available in future. It’s part of our Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), a borough-wide vision that outlines all the improvements we’d like to make to our active travel network over many years to come. This includes our Woodley to Reading active travel route, which is now under construction and set to finish by the end of 2026.

The LCWIP was shaped by your feedback to ensure we’re targeting the improvements that will make the biggest difference. All of its proposals are subject to funding and further, more detailed consultation. The more active travel schemes that we successfully complete, the more likely we are to secure Government funding for similar projects in future.
