Public engagement and changes

We consulted on this proposal in late 2023 and received 253 responses, with 137 (54 percent) in favour and 26 (10 percent) having no strong view.

Since then, we've revised the layout to address some of the concerns that were raised.

This includes extending the protection buffer separating the two-way cycle track from the road in both directions at the roundabout.

We've removed proposals for kerb build-outs on traffic islands at the Reading Road arms of the roundabout, allowing more space for traffic, and added 'keep clear' markings to the Mill Close and Rotherfield Avenue junctions.

We've also changed proposals for a section of cycle track  on the southern side of Reading Road, near Rotherfield Avenue, to shared use.
