What we’re planning to improve
Our proposal includes up to 2 new toucan crossings at Woosehill roundabout, allowing cyclists and pedestrians to cross side by side.
The first will replace the uncontrolled crossing and traffic island on Reading Road to the east, also improving onward travel to the Emmbrook schools via the path under the railway from Millmead.
Subject to available funding, the second will cross the Woosehill Spine Road, to the south of the roundabout. This has long been used as an unofficial crossing point and we want everyone to be able to use it safely.
There will be a new section of two-way segregated cycleway and shared path along the northern side of Reading Road, replacing the existing cycle lane on the carriageway, which will link with the existing cycle lane on either side of the roundabout.
We aren’t proposing to close the existing subway, though the scheme will allow people to avoid using this if they want.
