Car park payment machines
How to use our car park payment machines and Pay by Phone (RingGo)
Individual car park information can be found on our find a car park page.
Using the payment machines
If the screen is blank, wake the machine by:
- Pressing the green button just below the display to activate the screen and press the Red(X) to clear any active sessions that have not been completed.
- Tapping the screen
Please ensure the correct vehicle number plate is registered when using the machine, app, or permit. Failure to do so may result in a Penalty Charge Notice issued.
Check-In and Check-Out
Check-in and check-out authorises the full charge as a default pending payment.
Choose this option if you don't know how long you'll be. Once you check out, it will only debit the amount due for payment – the actual charge will usually be taken within 3 days. A banking app may show the full day's charge as a pending payment, until the actual check-out charge is debited.
If you hold a valid parking permit for the car park and car you wish to park, no action is required.
Be aware you cannot check in more than one vehicle, using the same card.
Check-In:
- Find a parking space
- Select the red(X) to clear any active sessions
- Enter your vehicle registration
- Press the green OK button
Check-Out:
- To check out you can use any payment machine in the same car park
- Select the red(X) to clear any active sessions
- Don't re-enter your vehicle registration
If you forget to check out
If you forget to check out – call 0118 974 6318 - between 7am and 10pm on weekdays.
You will be asked to confirm your vehicle details and last 4 digits of your card used. You will be charged up to the time you make the call to us.
If you are unable to contact us at the above number, please complete the Highways General Enquiry form. Select category: Parking'. However, if your issue is with a parking machine in one of our Country Parks, please email countryside@wokingham.gov.uk

Important Check-In / Check-out information
Vehicles remaining in the car park after a request for check out may be liable to receive a Penalty Charge Notice.
The machines will automatically check you out at the maximum duration for short stay car parks. Long stay car parks will be automatically checked out at 6am each morning to clear and process the transactions of the previous day.
The maximum duration charge is pre-authorised at Check-In, this will show on your account as a pending charge. Check-Out will provide the correct charge for your stay, to be debited from your account, usually within 3 days.
Pay by card (Prepay)
You can Prepay for a set amount of time by card when you park, no check-out required:
- Select the red(X) to clear any active sessions
- Enter your vehicle registration
- Press green OK button
Pay by coin (Prepay)
You can Prepay for a set amount of time by card when you park, no check-out required:
- Select the red(X) to clear any active sessions
- Enter your vehicle registration
- Press green OK button
Pay for multiple days (Prepay)
You can pay for multiple days by card only:
- Select the red(X) to clear any active sessions
- Enter your vehicle Registration
- Press green OK button
Types of cards you can pay with
You can pay with all types of debit and credit cards except for:
- American Express
- Visa Electron
- Maestro
If your card is declined
The machine will print a ticket confirming your payment has been declined. This is not a valid pay and display ticket; you may be liable for a Penalty Charge Notice.
Card payments can be declined due to:
- Wrong card type
- Poor connection to the bank
- High volume of mobile use in the area
- Mobile communications mast down
Trying another machine will often work, but if you're still having trouble you can pay by coins or phone (RingGo.)
Apple Pay and Google Pay
The machines are configured to accept Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Pay by phone (RingGo)
Pay by phone is available through the RingGo app or by phone. Follow the instructions on the signage at each car park or by watching the RingGo app download instruction video.
Operates Vehicle Validation Service (VVS.) This functionality checks the number plate when a vehicle is first registered in the app, reducing the likelihood of input errors that can lead to PCNs.
Discounted parking at Carnival hub Leisure Centre and Premier Inn are not available through RingGo.
Combined day-night-day charges and extensions of paid for parking time may be purchased via the pay by phone method (RingGo) when within a qualifying car park or time period.
Combined day and night charges and extensions of parking time may not be purchased when within a short-stay car park and parked prior to the elapsed combined short-stay and evening tariff (18:00-06:00).
Extensions of parking time may not be purchased within a short-stay car park, prior to the elapsed evening tariff (18:00).

Paying for combined day and night charges
Customers may pay for a combined day and night charge at the machine and when using pay by phone (RingGo). This service may also be used to purchase a combination of day-night-day charges, where applicable.
Check-In/Check-Out tickets at all long stay car parks will provide an automatic check-out at 06:00 the following day, including the evening charge, unless the transaction is manually checked out before this time.
Check-In/Check-Out transactions will be automatically checked out at the maximum stay duration in all short-stay car parks. Where this transaction elapses into the evening charge (post 18:00), the check-out will be automatically completed at 06:00 the following day, as above.
The combined day and night charge may be purchased up to the maximum stay duration, when using any of the PrePay options, including; coin, card and pay by phone (RingGo).
- Follow the PrePay instructions as above or shown at the machine
- Select the plus button (card), or insert coins, until the desired end time is reached.
- When using RingGo, scroll to the desired tariff combination.
Combined day and night tariffs can be purchased in our short stay car parks to include the maximum duration and the evening charge, when purchased within the relevant short-stay duration, elapsing 18:00 (evening tariff).
Short-stay car parks will allow a combined charge during the relevant periods, including payment by RingGo app.

- PrePay after 14:00 combined day-night-day up to 10:00 the following day
- Check-In after 14:00, automatic check-out 06:00 the following day
- Cockpit Path Car Park (6-hour maximum stay)
- PrePay after 12:00 combined day-night-day up to 12:00 the following day
- Check-In after 12:00, automatic check-out 06:00 the following day
- Rose Street Car Park (2-hour maximum stay)
- Outside Wokingham Town
- Crockhamwell Road, Lytham Road East and West Car Parks (2-hour maximum stay)
- PrePay after 16:00 combined day-night-day up to 08:00 the following day
- Check-In after 16:00, automatic check-out 06:00 the following day
- Crockhamwell Road, Lytham Road East and West Car Parks (2-hour maximum stay)
Permit parking
Season ticket permits are available for each of our valid car parks through our parking permit page.
Parking at our Country Parks

Discounted parking at Carnival Car Park
There is discounted parking at Wokingham Leisure Centre for Carnival Hub users.
There are 4 machines at the Carnival Hub for Leisure Centre users. Please register your stay at the Leisure Centre machines only, to receive discounted parking.
Do not pay at the car park or using RingGo - you will not receive your discounted parking.
Users are entitled to a 2-hour maximum, free vend, once per day.
If Check-In is completed within the Leisure Centre, the same machines must be used at Check-Out. You cannot complete check-out within the Multi-Storey Car Park.
Discounted parking for Premier Inn customers
There is discounted parking at Premier Inn, Wellington Road, for hotel users only.
Discounted parking is available Monday to Sunday evening, 6pm to 9am.
Do not pay at the car park or using RingGo - you will not receive your discounted parking.
If Check-In is completed within the Premier Inn, the same machines must be used at Check-Out. You cannot complete check-out within the Multi-Storey Car Park.
If you have a Blue Badge
Badge holders are not required to pay for parking and therefore do not need to check in or out or pay at the machines.
Make sure you display a valid Blue Badge and park within the bay markings.
Special buttons
We have several machines at different locations that provide additional functions:
- Cockpit Path - Market traders only - only valid with a market traders permit
- California Country Park - fishing rod and coach parking
- Dinton Pastures - fishing rod and coach parking
- Multi Day buttons can be used at all long stay car parks
