More ways to get support for you and your family

This guide is here to help you find the support that’s right for you and your family. It’s been put together by the Family Placement Team to offer practical help, reassurance, and clear guidance at a time that can feel like a lot to take in.

If you’re becoming a Kinship Carer or thinking about a Special Guardianship Order (SGO), you might be dealing with new responsibilities and big changes at home. It’s completely normal to feel unsure at times. Our aim is to make things a little easier by helping you understand what support is available and how to access it.

What This Guide Offers

In the next few pages, you’ll find different types of support, including:
  • Practical help with day-to-day responsibilities
  • Emotional and wellbeing support for you and your family
  • Financial guidance, including benefits and entitlements
  • Legal information and advice to help you understand your role
  • Education and childcare support for the children in your care

Local and Nationwide Support

This guide brings together:

  • Local services – support in your area that you can access directly
  • National support – trusted charities, helplines, and online resources across the UK

Whether you need urgent help, ongoing support, or just someone to talk to, there are services available to support you.

You are not alone

We encourage you to explore the next pages, take what’s useful for you, and reach out whenever you need support.

If you’re not sure where to start or would like to talk things through, please contact the Kinship Care Team. They’ll be happy to help you find the right support.
