Charges for our services
We charge for Deputyship based on the rules set by the Court of Protection. These rules cover fixed costs and payment for professional and public authority deputies. Read the full guidance on GOV.UK website.
If the person passes away or WBC stops managing their money, there may be a one-off fee to close the account. This covers the cost of closing the account safely and following the rules.
What the Deputyship Team doesn't do
While the Deputyship Team helps manage finances for people who can’t do it themselves, there are some things we don’t handle.
- Manage money for anyone who can make their own financial decisions, even with some help.
- Deliver cash directly to clients.
- Take over the role of care managers or social workers.
- Handle appointee cases – these will be signposted elsewhere.
When we can't take a case
Sometimes, we can’t take on or keep cases that are very complex, such as:
- High-value cases (large savings or property)
- Complicated finances
- Legal disputes
- Overseas assets
- Trusts
What happens then?
If it’s best for the person, the council may suggest a professional deputy approved by the Court of Protection.
- Professional deputies usually charge more because they handle complex cases.
- The council only suggests this when the case is outside our expertise and in the person’s best interests.
- The Court of Protection makes the final decision on who becomes a deputy.
