Local Plan 2045

About the Local Plan 2045

We've started preparing for a new local plan – the Wokingham Borough Local Plan 2045.  It will be an important document and will set out a vision and framework for managing development of the borough. It will help guide development including the future of our town centres, the management of land for different types of development including housing, employment and the infrastructure.  The plan will allocate land to help meet the need for development, particularly housing.

The new plan will replace our current local plans, including the Wokingham Borough Local Plan Update (LPU), which is currently at examination, with adoption anticipated in 2027. We are starting the new plan now in response to national changes to the planning system.

Timetable

We have published a timetable setting out key stages for the preparation of the Local Plan 2045.

Notice to commence

We have published a notice of intention to commence local plan preparation on 30 June 2026. This marks the start of the formal local plan preparation process.

Keep in touch

Engagement is essential for making sure the new plan reflects local needs and priorities as far as possible, alongside national planning policy.

We will be carrying out public consultations as we prepare the plan.  This will give you the chance to share your views on how we might approach managing development, as well as any proposals.
