By-elections called for Earley Town Council and Shinfield Parish Council

Local by-elections have been called to fill vacancies in Earley Town Council and Shinfield Parish Council.

The by-elections are due to be held on Thursday 11 December, but only if more than one candidate is nominated for each seat. 

The deadline for nominations is 4pm Friday 14 November, and the list of confirmed candidates will be published on Monday 17 November. 

Seats available 

Residents in these areas are encouraged to make sure they are registered to vote:

• Earley Town Council – Hawkedon Ward (1 seat)
• Shinfield Parish Council – Grazeley Ward (1 seat)
• Shinfield Parish Council – Shinfield North Ward (2 seats)

Voter registration

Anyone who wishes to vote must be registered. The deadline to register for the above elections is Tuesday 25 November. It only takes five minutes and you will be asked for your National Insurance number.

Electors can check they are registered to vote by submitting a webform. 

Poll cards and postal votes 

Anyone wishing to vote by post or cancel an existing postal vote, must do so by 5pm on Wednesday 26 November.

For those unable to vote in person or by post, a proxy vote can be requested, with the deadline to apply being 5pm on Wednesday 3 December. Residents are encouraged to make arrangements in advance to ensure their voice can be heard.

Voter ID and Voter Authority Certificates (VAC)

To vote in person at a polling station, voter ID is required. If you are not sure that you have the correct type of voter ID, please see the Electoral Commission’s  list of acceptable voter ID.

Accepted forms of ID include:

• Passport
• Full or provisional driving licence
• Blue badge
• Certain concessionary travel cards, such as an older person’s bus pass or an Oyster 60+ card
• Identity card with Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) mark
• Biometric Immigration document
• Defence identity card
• HM Armed Forces veteran card
• Certain national identity cards 

If you do not have a valid photo ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC), which is free and allows you to vote. The deadline to apply for a VAC is 5pm Wednesday 3 December.
