Priority actions

The report sets out 3 priority actions that must be addressed urgently:

  • Improve wheelchair services so children receive the equipment they need without harmful delays.
  • Create a strong Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) so decisions are based on a clear understanding of what children and young people in the borough need.
  • Improve the quality and accuracy of EHCPs, ensuring health input is properly included and delivered.

Inspectors also highlighted a concern about some schools:

  • Some children’s needs are being misunderstood as behaviour issues, leading to responses that feel punitive or traumatic for them.
