Pre-registration briefing and training

To become a childminder you will need to attend a pre-registration training course.  This can be completed through:

You will also need to complete these courses:

  • Universal safe guarding training
  • Paediatric first aid
  • Food hygiene level 2

The organisations mentioned above typically offer these training courses, but they are not the only ones who do.

Wokingham Borough Council does not endorse any of the training courses or resources. It is an example of what is available.

Additional safeguarding training

Our Early Years team offers free safeguarding training for all childminders.

Childminders who do not employ staff, will need to book on the:

  • Universal safeguarding and the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead course

Childminders who employ staff, will need to book on two separate courses:

  • Universal Safeguarding
  • The Role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead

The training is delivered over two weeks, with each session lasting three hours.

This is a valuable opportunity to strengthen your safeguarding knowledge and ensure best practices in your childcare setting.
