Waste collection changes 2026

We’re starting a new waste collection contract with Biffa from 1 June. Some residents will see changes to their collections.

This is due to changes in collection routes, which are being made to make collections more efficient.

The majority of residents will see no changes to their collection day. You will be notified directly if there are any changes to your home. This impacts about 1,000 households – see below.

Residents with longer gaps between collections will get help with any extra waste which builds up due to a longer gap than usual.

What you can do to help

What you can do to help collection crews as the new contract starts:

  • Put your bins and recycling out on your new days if you’ve had a change
  • Add your house number/name to your wheeled bin and recycling bags
  • Make sure your items are at the kerbside by 6.30am, or the night before, as crews are using new routes so your ‘usual’ time for collection may change
  • Recycle as much as possible
  • Book your garden waste sack collection as soon as you can
  • Report any missed collections after 5pm on the day it’s due
  • Be patient while the contractors switch over and show your appreciation for the crews

Narrow lanes

About 500 households will move from weekly blue bag collections to alternate weekly collections.

Residents will join the majority of the borough and get general waste picked up one week from a wheeled bin and recycling from green bags the next week.

Food waste will continue to be collected every week.

New wheeled bins for these properties will be delivered in May and should start being used from 1 June.

From 1 June, these properties will be able to get a wheeled bin for garden waste. You can subscribe on our garden waste page or follow the link below.

Garden waste

About 400 properties will see garden waste collection days change due to new collection routes.

Garden waste subscribers will be notified directly by letter and email to confirm new collection days in May.

Garden waste sacks

All garden waste sack collections will now need to be booked in advance.

You’ll be able to book a collection on our website or by calling us. The booking form will go live on 1 June.

As the form won’t be ready ahead of the 1 June, please present your sacks as normal for the first couple days.

Please ensure a collection is booked for the week commencing 8 June and you’ll need to book at least 2 days ahead of your normal collection date. You’ll also be advised of your approved collection date.

Residents have been notified of this change when buying garden waste sacks since March.

Impacted properties

This is a list of roads which are being impacted by changes.

Not all properties on these roads will see changes, so only properties who have received a letter are affected.

We’ll have our bin day checker updated soon so you can look up your collections easily with the new collection cycles and routes.
