Shinfield Parish Council by-election result
Conservative candidate takes vacant village ward seat with almost half the vote
Residents went to the polls on Tuesday 24 March in a by-election to fill a vacant seat on Shinfield Parish Council.
Votes were counted overnight at the Wokingham Borough Council offices in Shute End, Wokingham, after the parish’s School Green Centre polling station closed at 10pm.
The result, announced at just after 11:30pm, was as follows:
Shinfield Village Ward, Shinfield Parish by-election
Barrie Gilmour, Independent – 50 votes
Hilary Pollock, Conservative – 452 votes (elected)
Dominic Rider, Liberal Democrats – 198 votes
Edward Shaw – 264 votes
There were 968 ballots and the turnout was 22%.

Borough residents aged 18 or over, who are registered to vote, are eligible to do so in person or to apply to vote by post or by proxy (when you nominate someone to vote on your behalf).
Voters in person must show photo ID, while postal votes must now be renewed every three years.
