Progress update at Bohunt Wokingham Sixth
Works are progressing well at Arborfield's new sixth form.
Construction work is underway at Bohunt School’s new sixth form in Arborfield, with the new building’s steel frame complete and internal works now underway.
Bohunt Wokingham Sixth (BW6) is a collaboration jointly funded by Wokingham Borough Council and the Bohunt Education Trust, with 300 additional places being created by the project. Its contractors are Francis Construction, based in Thatcham, and the build remains on track to open in September 2026.

Ground breaking works started on-site this summer (10 July) and students continue to see progress on site each day.
Francis Construction are currently installing the flooring and roof. Upcoming works for the next month include installation of the roof and precast stairs, as well as brick and block works which will form the building’s outer cladding.

The new sixth form will include a dedicated physics and chemistry laboratory and a preparation room. In the main school building, the biology laboratory will also be refurbished. These new rooms will allow A Level students specialist facilities for practical learning.

Executive member for children’s services Cllr Prue Bray said:
“Works are progressing well at the new Bohunt Sixth Form and it is great to see the frame built, ready for internal and further external works. The building work has a way to go but once completed, it will provide 300 places for sixth form students. Our aim is to create a borough where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and we want to create broadened post-16 opportunities for young learners in our communities. I am looking forward to seeing BW6 progress over the coming months.”

Bohunt Wokingham opened in 2016 and was funded by developer contributions, as part of the council’s commitment to provide amenities alongside new housing. It was the first newly-built secondary school in the borough in 50 years.
Bohunt Wokingham Interim Headteacher, David Bibby said:
“The Bohunt Wokingham community is thrilled with the progress of our new sixth form building. With the steel frame complete, we can now see the scale of the project and the exciting opportunities it will offer our students. We thank Francis for their efforts on the project so far and supporting us at our first ever BW6 festival ahead of our opening in September 2026.”
The project improves educational opportunities in the rural south of Wokingham Borough, which currently lacks a sixth form.

Bohunt Education Trust, Neil Strowger, Trust Leader said:
“It is fantastic to see such strong progress on the Bohunt Wokingham Sixth project. Once complete, BW6 will offer state-of-the-art facilities and an exceptional learning environment, giving students in the south of the borough the opportunity to enjoy, respect and achieve without having to travel far from home.”
