Wokingham Borough Mayor, Cllr Carol Jewell, has attended a repair café to accept a cheque for her chosen charity.

On Sunday 17 August, the Repair Café at Lambs Lane Primary School, Spencers Wood, received a visit from the Mayor.

It follows the opening of the Eco Skills Learning Centre in June, where a raffle was held to raise funds for the Mayor’s chosen charity, Building for the Future.

Building for the Future is a parent-led charity that provides activities, support and therapy for children and young people with disabilities, as well as their families, in Wokingham.

A total of £115 was raised from the raffle by the Eco Skills Learning Centre, which the repair café agreed to match, bringing the total donated to the charity to £230.

Upon visiting the repair café yesterday to accept the cheque, Cllr Jewell said: “I’m delighted to accept this wonderful donation from the Eco Skills Learning Centre and the Repair Café at Lambs Lane Primary School.

“I believe this money will make a real difference to Building for the Future, who do such great work in the borough.”

Jane Holmes, CEO for Building for the Future, said: "We are deeply grateful to the wonderful volunteers at the Repair Café at Lambs Lane Primary School and the Eco Skills Learning Centre for choosing to support our charity through their recent fundraiser.

"Their generosity will help us continue to provide vital services for disabled children, young people, and their families in our area.”

Dr Billie Bachra, chair of the Eco Skills Learning Centre and the Repair Café at Lambs Lane Primary School, Spencers Wood, said: “The Eco Skills Learning Centre ran a raffle at their launch event for the Mayors Charity 'Building for the Future'. The Repair Cafe at Lambs Lane Primary School, Spencers Wood, was happy to match the funds raised.

“The Repair Cafe at Lambs Lane Primary School is now in its fourth year and we repair household items that would otherwise go to landfill. We do accept donations to cover our running costs and any extra money we have we are happy to donate to child focused initiatives and we plan to support this charity in the future.”
