Communities Vision and Council Plan

Our strategic direction for the next five years

Wokingham Borough Community Vision 2035

The Communities Vision 2035 has been officially adopted by the council, marking a significant milestone in our journey toward a brighter future. This comprehensive document, shaped by extensive community input and collaboration, lays out a framework of our aspirations and commitments to guide our direction over the next decade and beyond.

What This Means

The adoption of Communities Vision 2035 signifies our commitment along with our partners to fostering a thriving, inclusive, and healthy community. The Council will use it to inform strategic planning and service delivery, while continuing to collaborate with partners and the local community to achieve the outlined ambitions.

Our 6 Ambitions

  • Ambition 1 - Protecting and improving our places
  • Ambition 2 - Making it easy for people to access the things they want and need
  • Ambition 3 - Building and maintaining great communities
  • Ambition 4 - Providing fair opportunities for everyone
  • Ambition 5 - Economic success that everyone is part of
  • Ambition 6 - Living happy, healthy and independent lives

Communities Vision 2035 is now underway

Having launched in 2025, the Vision is a long-term, community-led ambition for Wokingham Borough — shaped by residents, businesses, voluntary organisations and partners who want to create a future where everyone can thrive.

This is not a council-led strategy or standalone plan. It continues to be guided and coordinated by a multi-agency Steering Group, bringing together partners from across the borough to ensure the Vision remains rooted in the community and reflects what matters most to local people.

Since launch, partners have been working together to build momentum — sharing stories, strengthening connections and embedding the Vision into local activity and services.

There are ongoing opportunities to get involved, whether through community events, local initiatives or partnership working.

How you can get involved

Everyone has a role to play in bringing the Vision to life — whether you’re a resident, community group, business or organisation.

You can get involved by:

  • Getting involved in your community — attend local events, volunteer or support activities happening near you
  • Sharing what you’re already doing to make a difference, so we can connect and showcase local impact
  • Telling your story to inspire others and highlight what’s working in your area
  • Using the Vision to guide your work or ideas, whether that’s through your organisation, group or personal initiatives
  • Working with others to create new opportunities and strengthen community connections
  • Expressing interest in contributing to the Steering Group or local initiatives
