How to register to vote

You can now register to vote on the Gov.uk register to vote website.

You'll need to provide your date of birth and National Insurance number.

If you have lost your National Insurance number visit the Gov.uk website's lost National Insurance number.

Who can register to vote?

To register you must be:

  • A British citizen or a citizen of a qualifying nationality (see the documents, below).
  • Over 16 - although you must be 18 to vote.
  • Living at the address where you wish to register.

Requirement for documentary evidence

In some cases, we are unable to process your application to register because we have not been able to confirm your identity, which we are required to do by law. If this happens, we need you to provide documentary evidence. Until this evidence is received, we are unable to add you to the electoral register.
