Support for learning and going to university

Whatever your plans are next, whether that’s studying, training or working, we’re here beside you. You’re not expected to figure everything out on your own. Our role is to support you in ways that feel practical, helpful and genuinely supportive, including:

  • A laptop for up to four years whilst you’re studying, so you don’t have to worry about having the right equipment to get your work done

  • If you are under 18 and have an interest to go on a school trip to support your studies the Virtual School will help support you, so you can be fully part of those experiences

  • Where equipment is not supported by a college bursary, the virtual school will support with course equipment, like hairdressing kits, safety gear or anything else you may need to get started

  • An hour a week of one‑to‑one tuition in Maths and English or another subject leading up to your GCSEs, and beyond, giving you that extra time and space to build confidence and keep moving forward

  • Making sure you know what help is available and helping you apply for bursaries and funding

  • Help from the Virtual School towards funding for vocational or employability training courses such as CSCS training, Security or Nails/Eyelashes.

  • We understand that some young people who have come to the UK seeking safety via asylum might need more flexible support with their education. Because of this, we will provide funding to help with different types of education to suit each person’s situation. This may include access to 1:1 tuition, online group tuition, or community classes

  • Extra help when it matters - if there’s something you need that isn’t listed here, just have a chat with us and we’ll see what we can do

“I used the course grant to do a lash course, and I just got qualified. My PA supported me to get the money for the course. It helped with my confidence because I was good at it.”

- Reyansh, Care Leaver

When you achieve something, we’re right there celebrating with you!

We know how much effort, commitment and determination go into completing qualifications, and we think that deserves to be recognised:

  • £50 for GCSEs or equivalent qualifications

  • £75 for A levels or equivalent qualifications

  • £250 for university qualifications

We will expand this to include other educational successes that are considered on an individual basis.

You’re taking positive steps towards your future, and we’re really proud to support you - every step of the way.

Have a chat with your Personal Adviser (PA) about what you need to help you reach your educational goals.
