Being you and what matters

Support with hobbies, faith, heritage, LGBTQIA+ identity, and community involvement

We want you to feel like you belong and that you’re not doing things on your own. You deserve the same chances as other young adults, and we’ll support you to get involved in your community in ways that feel comfortable and right for you.

“I moved away from my home country when I was really young. I speak good English and everything. This is my home now.”

- Kwame, Care Leaver

How we’ll support you

We’re here to help you:

  • Find hobbies, interests and activities that you enjoy

  • Connect with local places of worship, if faith is important to you

  • Learn more about your family’s heritage and cultural background

  • Explore your LGBTQIA+ identity in a safe, understanding and supportive space

  • Take part in special events and religious festivals that matter to you

  • Register to vote and make your voice heard.

  • Get involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, if that’s something you’d like to give a go

  • Help you connect with other young people who are going through the same journey that you are

Your identity

You are important, just as you are. We will make sure the people supporting you take time to understand what matters to you, respect your identity, and support you to be yourself. This could also include work around your life journey, how you have come into care and understanding the experiences you have had.

We also provide practical support with important identification and immigration matters.

This may include:

  • Applying for a passport (if you have the legal right to remain in the UK)
  • Getting a National Insurance number (if you have the right to work)
  • Supporting you with immigration and identity documents

If you are seeking safety through asylum, we can also support you to:

  • Understand and access Home Office documents, such as your Application Registration Card (ARC)
  • Get advice about travel documents, where this applies to your situation

Celebrating you and what you achieve

Every step forward counts. We’ll recognise and celebrate your achievements, whether they feel big or small, and take time to acknowledge how far you’ve come.

Activities and events

There are regular activities and events for Children in Care and Care Leavers where you can relax and meet other young people. Activities have included things such as:

  • Monthly drop-ins at the Here4U Hub

  • Camping trips

  • Barbeques

  • Beach trips

  • Residentials

  • Eid Celebrations

  • Christmas Celebrations

And many more fun activities that you can join in at your own pace.
