Protecting rights in care settings

Under DoLS, registered care homes and hospitals are known as Managing Authorities. This simply means they are responsible for providing the person’s care or treatment.

As a Managing Authority, you need to be aware when someone’s care may be restricting their freedom and look for ways to avoid or reduce restrictions wherever possible.

Any restrictions should be necessary to keep the person safe and should give them as much freedom as possible.

If you think someone may be deprived of their liberty, or could be soon, you need to apply for a DoLS authorisation.

Wokingham Borough Council is responsible for considering DoLS applications made to us and deciding whether an authorisation should be given.
