Asking for an authorisation to be looked at again

If a DoLS authorisation is already in place, the person or their representative can ask for it to be looked at again.

They might want to do this if:

  • the person’s circumstances have changed
  • the restrictions have changed
  • the person or their representative is unhappy with the arrangements
  • the care home or hospital is not following the conditions of the authorisation
  • they think the authorisation is no longer needed

The person or their representative can also challenge the authorisation through the Court of Protection.
