If you wish to show, demonstrate or perform a hypnotism act in public, you must have authorisation from the local authority.

Who needs a hypnotism permit

If you wish to show, demonstrate or perform a hypnotism act in public, you must have authorisation from the local authority. You must keep to any conditions attached to an authorisation.

Application process

Please send us an email stating your request for a permit.

We aim to process your application within 28 days of receiving it. Please contact us if you have not heard from us by the end of this period.

Appeals

Please contact us in the first instance. Anyone applying who is refused a licence or wants to object to a condition on the licence can appeal to their local magistrates' court within 21 days of receiving notice of the decision.

If you wish to complain that a hypnotist is causing a nuisance, or if you believe that there has been a breach of permit conditions, please contact us. You can also contact Citizens Advice for more information.

The relevant legislation is the Hypnotism Act 1952.
