Step 4: Book your appointment to give notice

Giving notice is when you sign a legal statement at your local register office to say you intend to get married or form a civil partnership.

A legal ceremony cannot take place until you have given notice.

We normally advise that you have your appointment around four to six months ahead of your ceremony.
