Are you a creative communicator who loves turning great ideas into engaging content? Do you enjoy connecting with communities and finding fresh ways to make an impact?

Wokingham Town Council is looking for an enthusiastic Marketing and Communications Officer to raise our profile, promote our services and events, and help residents stay connected with everything happening in the town.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days will be the same. You could be creating an eye-catching social media campaign, writing a press release, producing our annual newsletter, promoting a community event or working with local businesses and media partners to showcase Wokingham as a fantastic place to live, work, shop and visit.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Creating engaging campaigns across digital and traditional channels
  • Promoting council services including community events, civic occasions and grant programmes
  • Managing social media, website content and creative communications
  • Producing compelling stories, articles and press releases
  • Building positive relationships with local and regional media
  • Developing new and innovative ways to engage with the community
  • Supporting colleagues with their marketing and communications needs

What we’re looking for:

  • You’ll be a confident and creative communicator with experience in marketing, social media, public relations or a related field. You’ll have excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage several projects at once.
  • You’ll also be comfortable using digital tools and content-creation software such as Canva and CapCut. Experience of WordPress, graphic design, or working in a public-sector or community-focused organisation would be an advantage—but enthusiasm, ideas and a genuine desire to make a difference are just as important.

What we offer:

  • A permanent, part-time role, – up to 15 hours per week (flexible working hours considered)
  • £17.75 per hour, with an increase after successful completion of probation
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Hybrid working
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Generous annual leave
  • The opportunity to play a visible role in the life of Wokingham

If you’re full of ideas, passionate about great communication and excited by the opportunity to make a positive local impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Closing date: Noon on Wednesday 21 October 2026

(We reserve the right to close the application process early)
