Initial application fee

An initial non-refundable application fee of £231.30 must be paid for an engineer to carry out a technical assessment of the site. This fee will need to be made online prior to the application form being completed and submitted.

Quotation for approved applications

If your application is approved, we will provide you with a quotation for undertaking the relocation work.

Our quotation will be valid for 30 days from the date of issue and makes suitable allowances for the following:

  • supply of all plant, labour, materials
  • erection and dismantling of all temporary traffic management
  • reinstatement of the highway and disposal of arisings
  • charges from the third-party Distribution Network Operator or Independent Connections Provider for disconnecting and re-connecting to the mains electrical supply

If you choose to proceed with the relocation:

  • you must provide written confirmation that you accept the quotation by replying to the email you receive from our streetlighting team
  • make full payment in advance of any work being undertaken

If you would like to proceed with the works after the quotation has lapsed, you should contact our street lighting team via our Highway General Enquiry form and they will advise whether an updated quotation is required.

If you decide not to accept our quotation, the street light will not be relocated.

Cost to relocate a street light

We will charge the applicant for all costs incurred.

The cost to relocate a street light within three metres of its existing location on the same side of the road, is typically between £1500 -  £3500. However, this can vary depending on the height of the street light to be installed, the provision of a suitable lantern, traffic management requirements, the extent of the excavation and the charges from the third-party Distribution Network Operator or Independent Connections Provider for the associated electrical works.

Any proposal will be subject to the location of existing underground utility services which may restrict the relocation. We may need to dig trial holes as part of the assessment to determine the exact location or services, and this cost will be included in the quotation.

Relocation work

Once we have received your full payment in advance, we will order the works.

We rely on the third-party Distribution Network Operator or an Independent Connections Provider for the disconnection and re-connection to the electrical supply. The timescales for this can be uncertain — however we will aim to complete your street light relocation in approximately 16 weeks from receipt of your payment and confirmation to proceed.

Works within the highway are also subject to approval of Streetworks Permits. Other conflicting works or diversions in the area may restrict the dates available to undertake the work. Emergency works/diversions may also be put into place at very short notice which may postpone proposed dates.
