Eligibility, how to apply and other information

Find out who can get a Blue Badge on GOV.UK and check the qualifying criteria and points required for those who will automatically get a Blue Badge or may be eligible.

Blue Badges cannot be provided for temporary conditions, for example a broken leg.

Terminally ill applicants

Terminally ill applicants will have their application fast-tracked under Department for Transport (DfT) guidance.

Apply for or renew a Blue Badge

The application needs to be in the name of the applicant. Please do not select on behalf of someone else. The DfT rules state that a badge renewal is treated as a new application so include as much detail as before.

Apply for or renew a blue badge online

You'll need to upload or supply separately: 

  • a recent head and shoulder photo
  • proof of address
  • proof of identity
  • relevant medical evidence
  • proof of benefit

How long does the process take?

Blue Badges can take up to 12 weeks to process.

We'll try to remind you, 12 weeks before your blue badge expires by email or letter. It may be worth making a note of the expiry date.

Please make sure you let us know if you change your address or email address.

Cost of a Blue Badge

The cost of a Blue Badge is £10. 

How long is a Blue Badge valid?

If your Blue Badge is linked to one of the following benefits:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
  • War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement 
  • Personal Independence Payment

... then your badge will be valid for the period that you're in receipt of that allowance, if this period is less than 3 years.

Applying for a child

If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or Individual Learning Plan (ILP) please include with your application to support the assessment.

If your child is under 3 years old and has a condition which means they need close access to medical equipment or a vehicle so they can be to be taken for treatment quickly, their badge will be valid until the day immediately after their 3rd birthday.

What if I have a blue badge from another area?

If you move to Wokingham Borough from another area, you can continue to use your old badge. You can apply for a new badge from us when your old one expires. You should tell the Council that issued your old badge about your change of address.

What should I do if a blue badge holder has died?

You should return the blue badge to Wokingham Borough Council by posting or bring in it to:
Blue Badge Team, Shute End, Wokingham, RG41 1BN.
