See how much you could save by switching to group energy scheme
Residents are being encouraged to register their interest for a group-buying energy scheme to help them take control of their costs.
Switch Together uses 100% renewable energy and provides fixed energy tariffs. By households coming together to sign up, suppliers are then asked to compete for their business, with the result being a fair and predictable rate.
It is free to register and there is no obligation to switch. Residents receive a personal offer to see how much they could save before deciding if it is right for them.
Registration opened on Monday 23 February and closes on Friday 15 May.
Wokingham Borough Council has partnered with independent expert iChoosr since 2024 to promote this offer to residents. In that time, more than 2,000 people have registered and more than 500 people have switched providers as a result.
This has helped residents make savings on their energy bills, as well as 370 tonnes of carbon dioxide savings.
Formerly known as the Big Community Switch, the scheme is run by iChoosr.
Since 2012, they have been organising schemes with local councils in the UK. All energy suppliers have been vetted before being allowed to participate in the auction.
During the auction, suppliers compete to provide the best deal. Once this has been completed, residents receive a personal offer to see how much money they could save. There is no obligation to accept the offer and it is recommended to check other suppliers before making a final decision.
The offer will contain details of the winning tariff, such as the standing charge, unit rate and an estimated cost for the next 12 months.
As the council does not run the scheme, all enquiries should be directed to Switch Together online or call 0800 048 8285 (lines open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5.30pm).
The council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has committed to do as much as possible to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
Residents can access support and advice on a range of subjects via the council’s Climate Emergency Hub, including home energy-saving advice.
