Advice on meningitis B following cases in Reading
A small number of meningitis B cases have been reported in Reading but wider public risk remains low.
You may be aware that a small number of meningitis B cases have been reported in Reading, including one young person who has sadly died. Our thoughts are with their family, friends and everyone affected.
The cases appear to be linked through close social contact and the overall risk to the wider public remains low. Meningitis B does not spread easily.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is leading the response and is contacting anyone identified as a close contact to offer preventative antibiotics as a precaution.
