The leader of Wokingham Borough Council has issued a statement of solidarity and called for the community to stand together following yesterday's events.

Cllr Stephen Conway said: "We are appalled at the attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected, wherever they may be.

“Wokingham Borough is a diverse place, and we have reached out to the local Jewish leadership and other community groups to offer our support and any help required.

“As well as supporting the Jewish community after this terrible attack, we are working across the borough to ensure all communities feel welcome and supported.

“This is a difficult time with tensions rising in some areas, and we would urge people to remain calm and keep to our values of tolerance and inclusion. During testing times such as this, it is vital that we stand together and support each other.”
