Timeline
In 2010, we adopted the Wokingham Town Centre masterplan which set out a vision for the development of the town to 2026. The final milestone of the regeneration was reached in 2025 with the completion of new homes at Carnival Place. This is on Wellington Road, opposite the state-of-the-art leisure centre and the new home of Wokingham Library.
We invested in the town centre and ensured both existing and new businesses had a home.
The regeneration of the town centre took place over 15 years (2010-2025), transforming Wokingham into a vibrant area with new housing, retail, hospitality and leisure facilities, including:
- Improved public spaces
- A better retail experience
- An improved entertainment offer
- Better sports and leisure facilities
- Improved access and transport
- Improved sustainable community
- A rental income for the council

Timeline
- 2010: Wokingham Town Centre masterplan adopted
- 2014: Wokingham train station and station link road completed
- 2014: Clarks Corner (corner of Rose Street and Market Place) refurbished and new homes created
- 2016: Carnival (Phase 1) multi-storey car park work starts
- 2017: Peach Place work starts
- 2017: Carnival (Phase 1) work completed - new multi-storey car park and bowling alley
- 2017: Market Place improvement works start
- 2018: Market Place improvements completed
- 2018: Elms Field work starts
- 2019: Peach Place completed – new square with shops, restaurants and homes
- 2019: Elms Field play area opens
- 2020: Elms Field work finishes – new area with shops, cinema, hotel, supermarket, park and play area
- 2020: Carnival (Phase 2) Leisure Centre and Library work starts
- 2021: Carnival Place works start
- 2022: Carnival (Phase 2) completed – new leisure centre and library
- 2025: Carnival Place completed – 55 new apartments (one and two bedroom accommodation)
