Fraud
Fraud is where a person has been dishonest with the intention of making a financial gain for themselves or a loss to another.
The UK’s National Crime Agency states fraud is the most common crime accounting for over 40% of all crime in England and Wales. Home Office statistics show in 2019/20 fraud cost the UK £6.8 Billion. The Office of National Statistics (ONS) states in 2022/23 there was an estimated 3.5 million frauds with only 13 % actually reported.
