I am currently carrying out a research project looking into Staff/Workplace Travel Plans in relation to wider climate change. I am carrying out research to see how Councils have implemented a staff travel plan and was hoping you could answer a few questions to support my research. Having looked at your website, I cannot find any information regarding the actions and initiatives your council have in place for staff travel. The questions are:
1. Have you implemented a travel plan to encourage sustainable travel in the workplace? If yes, are you happy to share your current plan to support my research, I would really appreciate it.
Yes, this is attached. Note that this is now over five years old and we expect to refresh this as part of our plans for the Climate Emergency Action Plan.
2. If no, why have you not implemented a travel plan?
Not applicable.
3. Do you regard sustainable employee travel as a priority?
Yes, particularly given the borough’s commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030.
4. Have you implemented strategies to encourage employees to use public transport? If yes, what are these strategies?
See attached file, in addition we have a My Journey team who work mainly with the public (mostly in new developments as the team is mostly S106 funded) but also encourage staff to travel sustainably. We have signed up to the EasIT card which also gives staff discounts on travel.
5. Have you implemented strategies to encourage employees to walk or cycle to work? If yes, what are these strategies?
See attached file. We have also recently upgraded cycle parking at our main work site.
6. Do you have strategies in car sharing for employees who are travelling to work? If yes, how is this strategy implemented?
Not at present. It is something we are likely to consider as part of the Climate Emergency Action Plan as the economy recovers from Covid-19 and when/if staff numbers in offices begin to increase.
