1. Can you please provide a list of all roads closed to through traffic in the Borough (such as Arborfield School Road) since 1st April 2024, including those committed (such as Arborfield Church Lane). For each closure can you also provide the following:-
a) The cost (approximate of not known) of the closure.
b) The justification for each closure (such as how many accidents or deaths, or any other metric used to justify the closure)
Since 2024, there have been three permanent ‘No Motor Vehicle’ restrictions implemented in the Borough. The first is School Road, Aborfield, which was installed as part of the wider Observer Way delivery to restrict motorists from using an unsuitable route past a school and direct them to the new relief road. The cost of this project was approximately £65k.
The second was Sheerlands Road, Arborfield, which was installed by developers to again make sure motorists used more appropriate routes. As this was delivered by developers, the Council does not have costings available.
Finally, the Church Lane, Arborfield was restricted following a petition from local residents concerned about the speed and volume of traffic using the road. This was investigated by the Traffic Management Team who undertook a speed and volume survey, which confirmed the concerns. Following consultation as part of the Traffic Regulation Order process, this scheme as implemented at a cost of £1,560.78.
