This is a freedom of information request surrounding the Prevent Strategy programme in the 2024-25, 2023-24, 2022-23, 2021-22 and 2020-21 financial years. Please provide me with the following:
1. How much did your organisation receive in Prevent Strategy programme funding in each of the following financial years: 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25?
2. A breakdown of where this money was spent by your organisation in each of the following financial years: 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25.
3. Which council department is responsible for administering Prevent Strategy spending (please list all applicable).
In the financial year 2022/23 a joint bid to the Preventing Radicalisation Fund for a project to be funded up to £20,000 was submitted by Reading Borough Council on behalf of Reading Borough Council, Wokingham Borough Council and West Berkshire Borough Council.
The bid was successful and the project provided a Prevent training programme for voluntary and community sector organisations who work directly with vulnerable individuals. The primary objective for the project was to fill an identified gap in the knowledge and skills of the voluntary and community sector, raising awareness about the risks of radicalisation and equipping individuals working at the front line with the tools they need to act with confidence when there are concerns about a vulnerable individual.
The funds were not received by the local authority, as the training programme was commissioned via a procurement process by the Home Office and the successful provider, Connect Futures, a social enterprise, was paid directly.
