Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information relating to potholes and pothole maintenance in your council area. Please provide the following, broken down by calendar year for the last three full calendar years (2022, 2023 and 2024). Please also provide information from 2025 to-date (up until 31/09/2025). If data is not available up until then, please specify when the 2025 data runs until.

1. The total number of potholes reported to the council
The total number of potholes reported to Wokingham Borough Council via the Report a Problem feature (https://www.wokingham.gov.uk/roads/report) of the Wokingham Borough website is provided below. In Wokingham Borough, the data is recorded by financial year, and therefore the data is presented in this form.

4. The total number of compensation claims made to the council due to damage caused by potholes
In the calendar year 2022, 32 claims were notified to the council’s insurance team and/or insurers requesting compensation for damage allegedly caused by potholes. 13 claims were settled. The total amount of compensation paid is £4,572.12.

In the calendar year 2023, 140 claims were notified to the council’s insurance team and/or insurers requesting compensation for damage allegedly caused by potholes. 50 claims were settled. The total amount of compensation paid is £13,927.56.

In the calendar year 2024, 83 claims were notified to the council’s insurance team and/or insurers requesting compensation for damage allegedly caused by potholes. 25 claims have been settled. The total amount of compensation paid is £10,582.23.

In the calendar year 2025, up to and including 30th September, 48 claims have been notified to the council’s insurance team and/or insurers requesting compensation for damage allegedly caused by potholes. 15 claims have been settled. The total amount of compensation paid is £5,191.18.
