I am submitting a freedom of information request about potholes in your authority area, specifically:
1. The number of potholes reported in the last 3 years. Please provide the figure for each year (2020, 2021, and 2022.)
a) 2020: 2011
b) 2021: 2718
c) 2022: 1329
Numbers reported are the total number of works orders raised for potholes, not the total number of customer reports of potholes, which may contain multiple reports for the same road defect. In addition, a single pothole repair may cover more than one pothole, so the numbers shown are an estimate, not an exact count of reported pothole numbers, which is not available.
2. The combined width of the potholes in meters for each year, again (2020, 2021, and 2022.)
a) 2020: Records of pothole width are not available.
b) 2021: Records of pothole width are not available.
c) 2022: Records of pothole width are not available.
3. The average time in calendar days it takes to repair the potholes for each year (2020, 2021, and 2022.)
a) 2020: 6 days.
b) 2021: 4 days.
c) 2022: 9 days.
The time taken to repair is calculated as the time from the raising of a works order to the completion of the works order. Please refer to note to Question 1.
4. How much is spent on repairing potholes each year? Again, (2020, 2021, and 2022.)
a) 2020: £264,585.82
b) 2021: £292,006.20
c) 2022: £163,098.98
5. Total number of potholes reported to your authority, since you began recording this data.
From the start of the current highways maintenance contract on 1 April 2019 to 31 December 2022, the total number of potholes reported was 7263.
6. How much money has been given to drivers as compensation due to poor road conditions in the past (2020, 2021, and 2022.)
a) 2020: £9,914.63
b) 2021: £4,374.21
c) 2022: £3,442.74
Please note that these are the figures paid to claimants in each year but it is possible that claims were received in a different calendar year. For example: a claim received in October 2019 could then be settled in January 2020.
