I am interested in is for each of the three years 2019, 2020 and 2021:
1. The number of potholes identified in the local authority.
Wokingham Borough takes a risk-based approach to the investigation and repair of road defects, and accordingly does not distinguish potholes from other road defects in its reporting. Further information on Wokingham Borough’s approach to road maintenance is available from the Wokingham Borough website at:
Highways Maintenance Management Plan - Wokingham Borough Council
The following figures show the number of carriageway (road) defects repaired per calendar year. Please note that footway (pavement) defects are not included in the figures.
2019: 2491 defects
2020: 3016 defects
2021: 3348 defects
2. The number of potholes identified by the local authority that were not filled during the given year.
Wokingham Borough repairs all road defects that meet the criteria for intervention. However, a proportion of customer reports are closed down without any intervention, i.e., in cases where it is determined that there is no hazard to users of the highway.
3. The amount of money paid out by the local authority in potholes claims for damage to road vehicles.
The total sums below were paid by Wokingham Borough in settlement of claims relating to carriageway (road) defects in the following calendar years:
2019: £8,216.77
2020: £14,763.75
2021: £3,578.99
