1. Can you please provide a list of all pedestrian crossing installed in the Borough since 1st April 2024 and all planned pedestrian crossing installations. For each pedestrian crossing can you also provide the following:
Biggs Lane at Princess Marina Drive and Headley Road nr Oakwood Centre are the only signalised pedestrian crossings that have been installed since that date, all other currently planned sites are refurbishments of existing sites. Future new sites are yet to be finalised, but design work is progressing on several sites in the Borough. Zebra crossings have been installed in Wiltshire Road, Warren House Road and Bearwood Road since that date.
2. The approximate cost of providing the pedestrian crossing (there is no need to withhold this cost pending an accurate number)
This is very difficult to quantify as there are so many variables that can have massive impacts on the cost. For a brand-new signalised crossing with associated minor civils works, approximately £100k. For zebra crossings, we would anticipate a cost of £60 -70k Any changes to drainage, existing utilities, street lighting and electrical supplies etc can have an increased cost impact.
3. The justification for installing the pedestrian crossing expressed as PV² showing the workings to reach the PV² score.
The justification for installing a pedestrian crossing has been assessed using the PV² method. The PV² score is calculated by multiplying the number of pedestrians (P) crossing the road by the square of the vehicle flow (V²), averaged over the four busiest hours of the day.
The information requested for this is attached, except for Biggs Lane, which was delivered as part of development requirements in the area.
4. The number of fatalities and serious injuries at each location.
Over the last three years there has been following collisions at each location within the last three year period:
• Headley Road – 2. Both injuries classed as ‘slight’, neither involving pedestrians.
• Biggs Lane – 0
• Bearwood Road – 0
• Wiltshire Road – 1. Injury classed as ‘slight’, not involving a pedestrian
• Warren House Road - 0
