For each academic year from 2018-2021, please can you provide the following data:
1. The total number of incidents of restraint that took place in special schools and alternative provision sites in the local authority, and how many of these resulted in a physical injury to a child or young person?
The Local Authority does not hold this data. Some are reported as allegations to the Local Authority Designated Officer but we cannot answer the question as it is posed in this FOI.
2. The total number of incidents of seclusion that took place in special schools and alternative provision sites in the local authority, and how many of these resulted in a physical injury to a child or young person?
The LA does not hold this data. Some are reported as allegations to the Local Authority Designated Officer but we cannot answer the question as it is posed to us.
3.
a) Do staff at special schools and alternative provision sites in the local authority receive regular training in the use of restraint?
We understand that they commission this at a school level and the LA do not do this. Schools have training via their own resources/training providers
b) If the above answer is yes, which type of training or provider is used, and how regularly (for instance, is it annual, biannual, or upon starting a staff role)?
The LA is does not keep a record of this and so we cannot answer this question.
